Mackay is on the Peaks to Craters Scenic Byway. It is one of the most spectacular and diverse routes to drive or ride. Visit Craters of the Moon, fly fish and explore the mountains of the Lost River Range. Drive the loop from Sun Valley: Carey - Arco- Mackay - Challis - Stanley. It is a fantastic, scenic trip with Mackay the stop-over point in the middle.

Our favorite day hike: Lower Cedar Creek.

Mt Borah, Idaho highest peak is 20 mins north on Highway 93.

Heading south (Arco and beyond)

Visit Craters of the Moon National Monument

Heading north (Challis, Salmon, Stanley)

Visit the Land of the Yankee Fork Museum and Visitor Center.

Soak in the Challis Hot Springs, 45 mins north. Camping & B&B.

Discover undeveloped Hot Springs along the Salmon River.

 

Heading northwest (Sun Valley via Trail Creek Rd)

Explore Wild Horse and Copper Basin areas - great hiking and fishing.

 Scenic route and short-cut to Sun Valley and Ketchum open in Summer. This is a steep unpaved road, AWD is reccommended. Check road closures before travelling.
